Itaiópolis
Santa Catarina
Get to know
Itaiópolis is located in the northern region of Santa Catarina, distant 140 km from Curitiba and 159 km from Joinville. Known as the “Capital of Polish Culture in Santa Catarina”, it is a centuries-old city with roots in the Tropeiro route that connected the brazilian southeast and south areas. Over the years, Itaiópolis has been shaped by the influence of various ethnic groups, including Poles, Ukrainians, Germans, indigenous peoples and caboclos who have left their mark on the local culture, architecture and customs.
Today, this rich cultural heritage is preserved by cultural associations founded by the descendants of Slavic immigrants, who maintain the traditions of these countries in their cuisine, traditional costumes and events – where it's also possible to immerse in its authenticity and cultural diversity. Itaiópolis combines the charm of a quiet city with easy access, being just over two hours away from major centers such as Curitiba, for example.
In addition to its cultural and architectural heritage — among which the Alto Paraguaçu neighborhood, where Itaicine will be held, stands out — the Itaiópolis region boasts stunning natural landscapes, Standing between the plateau and Itajaí river top valley, you can find crystal-clear waterfalls, winding rivers and impressive mountain ranges in this city. The approximately 900 hectares of area protected by the nine Private Natural Heritage Reserves offer a spectacle of their own, offering the possibility of extending the tour to see the region's still untouched nature.
